Greetings and welcome to the
official website of the Commander in Chief of the
Sons of Confederate Veterans.
The
Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) is the direct heir of the
United Confederate Veterans, and the oldest hereditary
organization for male descendents of Confederate soldiers.
Organized at Richmond, Virginia in 1896, the SCV continues to
serve as a historical, patriotic, and non-political organization
dedicated to ensuring that a true history of the 1861-1865
period is preserved.
In
late 1860 and early 1861, many people of the South rose up to
throw off the yoke of what had become an oppressive government
that was no longer adhering to the ideals of the Declaration of
Independence and the Constitution. Perhaps at no time in history
has such a powerful nation been formed, with armies raised for
her defense, as quickly as was the determined states of the
Confederacy in 1861. But this task was imperative as the
government of the North had already commenced an invasion of the
South with the intention of forcing her continued membership in
the Northern union by the point of the bayonet.
During
this struggle the Confederate military was hampered with a force
much smaller than that of the enemy and was more often than not,
without adequate supplies. Still, through brilliant strategy and
tactics, they managed to win victory after victory, forever
inscribing the definition of Southern manhood into the annals of
history.
Unfortunately,
as the years wore on, attrition rendered further undertaking
pointless; the great armies of the Confederacy were forced to
abandon the defense of their homes and country. While holding
their heads high, the men in Grey, made their way back home to
give much needed protection to their wives and families and put
the pieces back together as best they could.
It is
with the same determined spirit and love of home and tradition
that we, the sons of these great men, continue to
honour their deeds and defend our
birthright of a noble Southern Heritage. Our Confederate
ancestors bequeathed to us a military tradition of valor,
patriotism, devotion to duty, and a spirit of self-sacrifice.
Today, our traditions of faith in God,
honour and chivalry are under attack by
forces of multiculturalism and history revisionists.
If
you are descended from a Confederate soldier, sailor or marine
and wish to honour and strengthen
these honourable American
traditions, then join with us in the Sons of Confederate
Veterans. Together we will defend the Confederate soldier's good
name, his cause and his symbols and see that future generations
are taught the true history of the South. For information about

Respectfully yours,
Michael Givens
